Copy Classes

The much awaited ‘Copy Classes’ has finally arrived!  The Class Maintainer can access the functionality via a new Copy Class button that appears at the top of the class page in Manage mode.  This not only enables class pages to be copied within a school site but also at remote sites in the same deployment. Subject to the standard characteristics of the properties within the class page, it is possible to generate copies that are blank, linked and view only or editable, or stand alone, in any combination.  It is important to remember that linked properties will reflect changes in both the original and copied class page.

‘Stand alone’ copies of properties will be totally independent.   Changes made to the original will not reflect in the copied version and vice versa.  In order to activate the ability to make stand alone copies The “Allow Editors and Maintainers to copy this Property” checkbox has been checked on the Property’s sharing interface.  Remember not all properties have this facility, such as the DIY property.

MyWiki

A wiki is a communal workspace that allows a group of people to work on a task together.  The new MyWiki feature of MySuite is designed to be used by teachers as a teaching aid and by students as an environment to share with others in order to complete tasks. Your Administrator will turn this functionality on for you in SINA.  Look for a link at the top right of the screen in the same way as MyMail, MyPortfolio or MyBlog appears.

Teachers and administrators can create searchable Wiki areas, to which pages can be added. Sharing rules are assigned to Wiki areas by the creator. Each time a contribution to a page is saved, a version of the page is generated. The original Page Creator, Editors and Maintainers can revert the page to an earlier version if required.

There is also a new Class Wiki property that can be selected from the class details page, with links to the MyWiki area.   Remember all students of the class automatically have viewing rights to the wiki but they cannot edit or create pages, sharing rights to the property have to be set to enable them to do this.
